Understanding Common Connection Errors

Authentication failed

Check:

  • Your BNC username.
  • Dashboard network name.
  • Current password.
  • The slash and colon in the connection format.

SSL handshake failed

Check that SSL/TLS is enabled for the connection to:

Code:
bnc.eggy.net:5000

In mIRC-style commands, use:

Code:
+5000

No such network

The network name in your connection command does not match a network stored on your dashboard.

Copy the exact name from the Command area.

Connection refused

This may indicate:

  • An incorrect server or port.
  • A temporary external IRC server problem.
  • The selected service is not listening on that port.

Connection timed out

This may indicate:

  • An unreachable IRC server.
  • A routing problem.
  • An unavailable IPv4 or IPv6 path.
  • A temporary network outage.

Too many connections

This is normally a limit returned by the external IRC network or server.

Include the full error and server name in your support report.
